The recommended pinion angle for stock applications is between 1°-3°, which has always been our guideline. Some customers have experienced driveline vibration around 70mph when the rear driveline is under power, despite their specs falling within the recommended range. We tested this issue in our shop and found that installing 2° pinion shims relieved the problem.

The end pinion measurement on the two tested vehicles was 4° and 5°; both were perfectly smooth under power at all speeds. This caused us to toss the accepted 1°-3° spec out the window accepting the higher figure for lifted applications; after all, you can’t argue with results!
